PÁGINAS: 40
RESUMO:

Antennas consist in a critical element of communication devices, and for this reason it has been a topic of high interest in research. Many kinds of antennas can be found in literature, and Microstrip Patch Antennas (MPA) are one that offers versatility, low-cost, ease of fabrication and discreteness. These properties allow for this technology to be implemented countless systems ranging from portable daily devices up to aerospace applications. Among the plethora of paths through which it is possible to improve antenna performance, a very interesting one is the design of Fractal antennas. The use of fractals is vast in many areas of science. A lot of known fractal patterns can be found in literature, such as Koch, Minkowski and Sierpinski, and reports have shown a great potential for application in communication devices. novel fractal which has been proposed recently is the Firat fractal, which has presented good performance for application on telecommunication devices. For this reason, the present work is intended to contribute on the analysis of Firat fractal pattern by performing further research and proposing modifications in order to provide new insights so that this technology can be better understood and controlled. Previous study provided promising simulated results for rectangular microstrip patch antennas, which encouraged the author to manufacture and characterize classic, rectangular microstrip patch antennas, as well as respective samples with iterations of the Firat fractal pattern. Antennas for operation at 2, 4, 6 and 8 GHz were designed and manufactured. Preliminary results show a left-shift on resonance frequency up to 790 MHz, more expressive in the first-iteration samples. Resonance frequencies were used to design standard antennas and compare dimensions to estimate the miniaturization factor of each case, which led to values up to 62.02 %. Simulations were validated with good matching measured results, with maximum difference below 5.0 % for resonance frequencies. The validation of simulations provided by this study emphasizes the importance of further research on this subject, which may help to better control the observed effects. These promising results are not enough to ensure the applicability of this technology, but it encourages further analysis which are now in progress. These analyses include observation of radiation patterns, efficiency and current distribution for more consistent conclusions. Also, geometry manipulation is valid so that an optimal pattern can be achieved.
