SUMMARY:

Resumo 1: Dragon fruit cultivation has been gaining ground in recent years as it is considered a fruit with high
economic potential, in addition to presenting favorable adaptive characteristics in environments with
water limitations. Therefore, dragon fruit is seen as an alternative for cultivation in semi-arid regions,
however , the limited information on the phenological reproductive behavior of this cactus is seen as
a disadvantage in commercial production by producers. For this reason, the present study aims to
evaluate the reproductive phenology of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) cultivated in semi arid climatic conditions in the municipality of Mossoró-RN. The experiment was conducted in the
teaching orchard of the Federal Rural University of Semi-Árido. The treatments were distributed in a
randomized block, in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme, with 3 blocks and 2 plants per plot. The treatments
consisted of 3 types of water (supply water 100% (C0%), fish farm effluent water 100% (C100%) and a
mixture of waters: (50% effluent + 50% supply water) (C50% ) and two sources of fertilizer (cattle
manure and NPK formulated 16-16-16). Monitoring of the plants was carried out during two years of
cultivation (SET/2021 – APR/2022) and (SET/2022 – APR/2023), the plants were pruned uniformly,
leaving 30 to 40 cladodes per plant, then 5 cladodes per plant of each treatment were selected and
marked. The phenological stages observed were, flower bud emission, opening and closing of
flowers, setting and fruit development and physiological maturity point ideal for harvest. The flowers
last 10 hours of nocturnal anthesis. The time between anthesis (pollination) and harvest was 49 days
in the first cycle and 76 days in the second cycle and the Total time from bud appearance to harvest
took 101 days in the first year and 122 days in the second productive year. The climatic conditions
observed during the cultivation years influenced the phenology of the red dragon fruit, resulting in
differences in time in the phenophases in relation to the periods observed in the two cultivation
years. Seven reproductive phenological stages of red dragon fruit cultivated in semi-arid climatic
conditions were observed.

Resumo 2: New eating habits result in market opportunities, promoting the emergence of new fruit trees
that have great economic potential. The cultivation of exotic fruits fits into this new scenario,
such as dragon fruit cultivation (Hylocereus spp.). The agricultural sector is constantly
expanding, the increase in the world population requires large-scale food production.
However, the irrational use of natural resources such as water can limit this production, for
this reason, it is necessary to use sustainable techniques, among the alternatives we can
mention: the reuse of effluent water from fish farming, irrigation in agricultural cultivation
areas. Therefore, the objective of this work will be to evaluate the influence of fertilization
and the reuse of water from fish farming effluents as an alternative to irrigation on the
productive aspects and physical-chemical characteristics of dragon fruit cultivation. The
experiment was conducted in the teaching orchard of the Federal Rural University of Semi Árido. The treatments were distributed in a randomized block, in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme,
with 3 blocks and 2 plants per plot. The treatments consisted of 3 types of water (supply water
100% (C0%), fish farm effluent water 100% (C100%) and a mixture of waters: (50% effluent
+ 50% supply water) (C50% ) and two sources of fertilizer (cattle manure and NPK
formulated 16-16-16). The production, physical and post-harvest characteristics of the fruits
were favored in treatments irrigated with water 100% of fish farming effluent (C100%) and
the mixture of water: (50% effluent + 50% supply water) (C50%), together with mineral and
organic fertilization. It was observed that in treatments that were not fertilized, however,
irrigated with 100% effluent water of aquaculture (C100%) and the mixture of waters: (50%
effluent + 50% supply water) (C50%) the production, physical and post-harvest
characteristics of the fruits were superior to the treatment irrigated with supply water.
